Wanderlust: Macau 2014

Last year, Nikko and I booked our trip to Macau. We were able to buy Air Asia seat sale tickets at Php 2,500 each. Because I have a very proactive fiance, he already booked our hotel during Q4 of 2013. Hence, we were able to get 20% discount in Ole London Hotel, a 3 star hotel in Macau.

We left Manila around 3:00PM last March 28 and we arrived in Macau past 5:00PM. We rode the free shuttle bus from the airport to Venetian. Feels so happy to be back in the Venetian Hotel - the sweet smell and the very accommodating hotel staff. From Venetian, we rode the free shuttle all the way to Yuen Tung Pier where it will stop in Masters Hotel. It feels like Nikko has been in Macau several times already. He knows the place and he is very familiar with the map. But no, it was his first time. From Masters Hotel, we walked about 100 meters and found a red post. Nikko read the reviews for Ole London Hotel and some reviewers mentioned the red post. Upon seeing the post, Nikko knew we were near the hotel already. We checked in and it was as easy as 5 minutes. The guy hotel staff speaks english very well. He gave us our hotel card key and asked us for 300 pataca/HKD as deposit which is refundable at the end of our stay. We changes clothes, parked our things and excitedly went out already.

We were on our way to Senado square when we felt hungry. We passed by an authentic Macanese restaurant and ordered our dinner.

Nikko chose a fried noodles meal in Singaporean style.

I had chicken strips with fried rice.

We walked all the way to Senado square, took some pictures and walked all the way to the famous hotels. Our first stop is the Grand Lisboa. We took pictures outside and watched how the lights were dancing outside the hotel.

Our next stop is the Wynn Hotel. Every 15 minutes, there's a fountain dance outside the hotel. It was very nice looking at the grand fountain outside.

We also went inside and saw some luxurious stores and we took the chance to take some pictures (turista shots.. haha).

We also went inside a luxury bar and took some pictures near the pool area. I was so amazed looking at their pool.

Our next stop is MGM Hotel. Nikko is looking forward seeing the hotel because it was where Manny Pacquiao used to do his fights. I was also excited to see the design inside the hotel. The last time we were there in 2011, the interior was full of flowers.

This time around, it was an under the sea theme.

After the MGM stop, we got so tired walking around so we decided to ride a cab all the way to our hotel.

That was Day 1.

The next day, we woke up at 8am and went to Senado square. We took pictures and went to the Ruins of St Paul. We ate pork chop buns and egg tarts for breakfast. While we were eating, it rained. Good thing, there is a Starbuck store 10 steps from the ruins area. We had our morning coffee because we weren't able to drink coffee at the hotel. We stayed there for about two hours waiting for the rain to stop. When we realized that almost half day have passed, we walk in the rain and looked for an umbrella. We walked in the rain with one umbrella and tried looking for a cab. Because it was raining, all the cabs were occupied. We were looking for buses to Macau Tower but we couldn't see any. We decided to go to Sofitel Macau because we thought its easier to ride a cab or bus there. At the Sofitel, we were looking for someone we can talk to about how to go to Macau Tower by bus. Luckily we saw a Filipino who is working in the hotel. He instructed us to ride bus 26 and ask the bus driver to drop us off at the third stop. We didn't go down the third stop and we ended up in the terminal. We were lost. We asked around where we are but the locals were having a hard time reading the map. Good thing, Nikko was really familiar with the map and he asked the cab driver to take us to the tower. On our way, we some signs and we realized we were already in the Northern part of Macau. Since we also wanted to go to the Fisherman's wharf, we asked the driver to drop us off there instead.

At the Fisherman's wharf we got so amazed at the structures. It was like a coliseum in Rome.

We took panorama shots of all the places IG worthy.

When we finished roaming around the area, we took a cab to the tower. Upon arriving at the tower, we ate our lunch. We ate pork buns and egg tarts again, this time with lemon iced tea.

After lunch, we went to the viewing area already and we had some fun watching people doing bungy jumping.

It was raining but it was real fun.

After the tower, we rode a bus to the Maritime Museum and the local Chinese temple. It was Nikko's dream to do some incense lighting. He bought a pack of incense and lighted at several praying areas. Wish granted for Kuya!

We dropped by the Maritime Museum and took some pictures too.

We waited for a bus so we can go home and change clothes.

After we changed clothes, we went to Senado Square to buy pasalubongs.

We went to a local macanese restaurant and ate some local dish.

That was day 2.

Came Sunday, our last day, we woke up at 9am and heard mass at St Augustine.

After mass, we packed up our things and checked out. We went to the shuttle stop to Venetian so we can roam around the hotel. We had lunch and we rode the shuttle back to the airport.

Goodbye Macau! It was nice to be back after 3 years!
