I never imagined I will be an early bird. Frankly because I am an owl. I work best during night time when everyone else is in dreamland. I would often stay late at night due to numerous readings for Law School but even way back in College, I would often stay late surfing the net, watching TV or engrossed in a book. But when I got married, my life changed (literally). I am now a morning person and I call myself the early bird.
My husband's work shift starts at 6am. Hence, we need to wake up at 4:30am, dress up at 4:45am, eat breakfast at 4:50am and leave the house at exactly 5am. He drops me at the gym at 5:30am and ever since I learned how to drive, we leave the house at the same time and I go to the gym at the same time. Yes, I open the gym at 5:30 even if the opening time is at 6:00am. I run for about 30 minutes, weight lift for 15 minutes and do some core exercises for another 15 minutes. I take a bath at 7am, dress up at 7:30am and arrive at the office at 8am. Yes, I am the early bird.
Our work has a very flexible shift schedule. You can come in anytime as long as its before 11am and you finish about 8 hours and you are still a model employee. So it was like that for more than 5 years now. I come in past 10am, get my coffee and start my day until August 2015. But starting September 2015, my life changed - achievement unlocked. Coming in at 8am is an extra mile for most of us so when I became the early bird, I felt like it was achievement for me.
I think it's happier on this side of the boat mainly because everyone gets to greet you "Good morning". It has a positive impact on me because while everyone else is just starting their day, I already finished mine. When everyone else is cramming, I am on my workstation very calm. I have time for reading books, blogging, and most importantly planning my day ahead. Oh yes, when I got married, my life changed --- I became the early bird and I am loving every bit of it!
