Philosophy of a Happy Marriage

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.”
The dictionary defines honeymoon as a vacation spent by a newly married couple. It is a tradition which all newly married couples do. Some would spend it in the hotel right after the wedding, some would go to a local vacation spot or some would take the chance to travel outside the country.

Nikko and I spent our first night in Eastwood Richmonde. Then the following day, we spent our honeymoon in Boracay, Philippines. Boracay is our favorite beach in the country so when we were planning our post wedding getaway, we took the chance of going there during the off-peak season. One unique thing about our Boracay honeymoon was that we were not alone. We spent it with my siblings, my aunt and her husband who celebrated their 20th Wedding Anniversary - good sign for us! We literally had fun because we were all together in the beautiful island, enjoying the sun and sand.

After three months of being married, we decided to spend some time together a little far from home. Thank God for the APEC holidays, we were able to have a quick trip to the South. We decided to go to Tagaytay. We stayed at a cozy newly built lodge. We went to places we've been to back when we were not yet married. We enjoyed some local Tagaytay food like Bulalo, Crispy Pata and our favorite Bag of beans coffee and cakes. We also discovered this newly opened cake store called Greg's Fruitcakery. I call this our 2nd honeymoon.

My point in this blog post is very simple. Couples should always take the chance of spending time together to nourish the friendship and love and celebrate marriage itself. The more honeymoons, the better --- I think that's the best philosophy of healthy marriages. One should always make it feel like it's the first date, first love, first kiss, first holding hands, first hug, etc. A mentor once told me that when it comes to work, think like it's always your first day and your mindset will change. Ever since I heard that thought, everyday seems to be a happy day. It brought me back to my first days at work when I was always excited to get up, dress up and go to the office. It made me more grateful of what I have. Agree?

Happy Honeymoon-ing!
